www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/the-2015-world-happiness-report-names-switzerland-as-the-happiest-country-in-the-world/story-e6frfq80-1227322891930Yes, I know these surveys are meaningless . . . but I can't help but think that there may be some truth in them . . . For what it's worth, Australia ranks 10th and New Zealand 9th. Canada is 5th. Top three . . . Switzerland, Iceland and Denmark . . . hmmmmm. I've actually visited Switzerland (quite a lot) and Iceland, and my wife is of Danish extraction. "Academics identified the variables as real GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on, perceived freedom to make life choices, freedom from corruption and generosity." Is this happiness? What do you all think? Anyhow, the report goes on . . . "The United States trails in 15th place, behind Israel and Mexico, with Britain at 21, pipped by Belgium and the United Arab Emirates. France ranks number 29, behind Germany in 26th place. Afghanistan and war-torn Syria joined eight sub-Saharan countries in Africa — Togo, Burundi, Benin, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea and Chad — as the 10 least happy of 158 countries."

pjmpjm I'm going to send you a link to the blog of a friend of mine who has lived happily in Thailand for quite a while. I'm not going to place it on the open forum for reasons I wont bore you with but anyone else interested in living in or reading about rural Thailand can have it as well. It's quite a remarkable chronicle... even though some of his opinions may not sit well with everyone.... and very nice photos as well.
