hello I am new to the site, have been trying to read threads about portability. all seem to be more than a year old. I will return to Australia in September to claim my o a p . I have been in the Philippines for just over 2years. will I qualify as a resident still after a 2 & a half year absence. will I have to wait 2 years in Australia before I can make my pension portable. I have been told & read many different answers, to say I am confused is putting it mildly. whatever the answers I get if any, I know I will have to go back to see & find out from centerelink. any answers will be well accepted .

Welcome to the forum Paul. Yes, you're right about "many different answers". My advice would be to apply and say nothing about the time away, unless asked of course, I personally cannot see that 2&1/2 years away after a life time in a country would bust your residency. If you have a problem, ask for a review of the decision, I personally spent years overseas before I applied for the OAP and was refused portability by the first officer I spoke to. I asked for a review and it never even got that far, she spoke to her superior while I was on the phone and came back and said off and good riddance.

hi i do not know if this is the right place to ask this question but if not pls move to the proper section.
well next year i turn the big 65 as i am bit knocked about n ragged around the edges n limited m0bility hard to travel, now i heard that if i go from DSP onto OAP i will loose money and will have to return to Australia for 2 years before i can return to my family overseas, but if i stay on DSP the payments will stay the same and i just continue as i have done for last few years since i got UP, any advice much appreciated, i do not want to return to ozzi i need a 24/7 carer and i have a young son to look after here, thanks mates.

I went from DSP to OAP and never dropped a cent until I had been overseas for 26 weeks and lost the Pensioner supplement or whatever they call it.
This applies to DSPers as well.
It's up to you if you want to change, I never had UP of the Disability Pension so I thought being on the age pension would make it more secure.
Purely a personal decision.
2 years? You don't have to return to Australia ever if you don't want to.

The confusion over the 2 years is because returning residents who apply for the Age pension must wait 2 years for portability.

Go back a short while before your 65th birthday eg 1-2 months and start the application from that point. You are in an extemely strong position v Centrelink if you have as I imagine your 35 year AWLR. Australian Working Life Residency.
The supplements will stop. But on current awards you will get $860 every fortnight into your Aussie bank account. The only caveat being you will have to declare any other income, if you have any. Otherwise it's smooth sailing. As far as what you tell C-L in the beginning, that is up to you. But per the rules you must tell them of your travel plans in advance and I would definitely do that.
