Hi, My name is Melissa and I've been on the dsp since I was 20 ( 2000 ). My disability is a listed disability so my dr really just ticked a box, crossed out a lot of stuff or wrote not applicable on most pages. Back then it was accepted. I had a review in 2005 and nothing since then, I'm sure there will be another, problem is, my old gps office had a fire in the records room, they were in the process of uploading to the computers and my file happened to be destroyed before being uploaded. I have epidermolysis bullosa, I was born with it. There is no treatment or cure, there are no specialist for me to see, so with all these talks of a condition having to be treated and stabilized has me freaking out. So here's the real kicker, my mother in law has been diagnosed with dementia and she happens to live in the usa. Although she has other children living in the usa, none are able to care for her which only leaves my partner and I. We can't bring her to live here as she doesn't fit the criteria. So I was wondering how to go about getting the portability thing on my dsp. Any help would be great. My partner is my carer also he's the carer to our son who has the same condition as me. Our daughter also has it too

Welcome to the forum Melissa. You need to have a long talk with your doctor about your eligibility for portability. As you have single disability the likelihood is that all your points are in this impairment. Portability assessment is only based on a single impairment, unlike the DSP which is about multiple. Read the impairment tables, print off a copy if you like and see if you think you qualify. www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2011L02716Then see the doctor. If he thinks that you qualify then you contact Centrelink and ask them to send out the forms.

Welcome Mel. A complicated saga but I could only suggest asking C link to apply for portability. I would have thought that clink already have your records from when you were last reviewed. No treatment or cure seems 100% clear to normal people but alas they are not normal and their recent harsh treatment of many defies belief. Maybe seek out a new specialist in the field if there is one to get a new report just to be on the safe side. You should be fine even if it means a bit of a fight so try not to stress too much. All the best.

Welcome Melissa, as already mentioned, read tables, see where you fit, see Doctor, get new report, receive FOI documents.... Now you are armed, apply for UP. With a listed disability hopefully it will be a formality, all the best with it. Cheers 🐻

Thank you everyone. Such a daunting task but I believe it's what is needed to be done. My disability should cover the points. Oddly all the specialists for Adults with EB are located in the usa. Our children do see the specialist clinic at the randwick childrens hospital, we have an appointment in November so maybe I'll see if they can do some kind of report for me . Our children are dual citizens of the usa so qualify for disability over there so that's one less worry. Just sucks that brightsky's who are responsible for our medical supplies here only works in Australia as I believe the usa is expensive. So much to look into. Giving ourselves at least a year to sort everything out
