Hi to all.i called C/L int. about getting my pension paid in overseas bank account and they said if i do that it means a declaration of intent of living there permanently. Now i am bit worry if i do that, they will give me a headache On residency as i'll be living overseas.or something like that. I've read a thread a while ago someone suggested not to tell them moving O/S permanently no matter what because they gave him lot of sh..t on residency. What are your thoughts?

From what I have read on this forum, time and time again, is not to give them any indication at all that you intend to live overseas permanently, do not even think it.

If you have UP or receive OAP you can go wherever you like for as long as you like! That's the law. It is only a declaration of intent to live there permanently not a declaration of giving up Aussie citizenship. People who are already paid monthly into an overseas account can tell you more I'm sure. Keeping an Oz account has benefits though not necessarily to have your payments going into. Indeed we did, this was back before Unlimited Portability came in. Now that people who have portability of their pensions they are allowed to live overseas, having an overseas bank account is a considerable saving on fees in many cases, loss of residency in some factors is an issue, granted, but as someone as took this step along with portability of the Age Pension I believe that if the goal posts move further down the track Centrelink will not be able to remove existing portability but will be obliged to grandfather people who can prove legal overseas residency, taken with their assistance and approval. I'll point out that this is my personal belief, which may not be shared by others in my position.

Hopefully you're right Boss, because these are exactly the types of issues I was alluding to on the other thread and grandfathering was certainly not in the mix when the 2012 assessments came in, neither for UP or on Review.

They always claimed that DSP portability pre-2012 was never intended to allow people to live overseas. They said that the touch and go system... returning to Australia to maintain residency then leaving again immediately was possible through a "loophole" in the legislation that they corrected in 2012. To grandfather people under the previous system would have been admitting that they had been wrong about this and we all know how difficult it is to get them to do that.

My advice has always been to keep your oz bank account along with as many other connections to oz as possible. I have an overseas bank account but i have told no one about it. my dsp gets paid into my ox account and i get the money when i return to oz with enough to live on to live on for another year either byb transfer or cash. i also return at least once yearly. I have had no problems at all since i got UP. (touch wood).
