Its all about perception The terminals want to look nice and clean I think you will find that things will change over the future In you many years you have been lucky The good old times are a thing of the past

Where else are you going to sleep when airlines (deliberately I'm sure) force long layovers and the traveller has no interest in clearing immigration, getting to the city, having a feed and drink, ooops let's get back to the airport or we'll miss our flight type of thing going on!
If I'm travelling from A-C and am forced through scheduling to go via B, that's one thing; but being forced to go outside, then get back to make a flight, another thing altogether.
KL has that lovely inside hotel that I've never used; maybe they'll become the norm and will be included in ticket prices for night time or lay overs of eight hours plus. Cheers bear

Yes, that's why we must fight them. They have exhausted people waiting for flights and want to deny them sleep unless they pay MONEY. While at the same time they have thousands sleeping on streets. Years ago no one vilified those on welfare. now everyone is a loser/bludger if they need it. We are doomed unless we fight back. Unless those good times(read decency) returns there is no hope.

P.S. In Perth one time airport staff directed me upstairs to comfortable sofa's where they said people sleep when the shops are closed. Was as good as a bed.

yes bear, twice i had a hotel that was included in tickets for long stop overs. In Saigon 3* and even a 5* hotel in Manila and i thought they had to do this with anything over 8 hours but not anymore it seems. And it defeats the purpose of paying for a budget flight if you then have to pay for a hotel half way. I will not do it anymore unless flight is ridiculously cheap. Even day time stops are horrible with 5 or more hours in an airport. Unless you are a first timer of course and then all is exciting. Or coming on UP perhaps.
