My question is what happens if I stay more than the 4 weeks , let’s say for example I stay for 6 weeks befor coming back to Australia will my payments start again ? Will I have to go into the office and will I have to re do my rent assistance ? Also how do they work out the 4 weeks in a year is it a year from my last 4 weeks over seas or does it reset on the New Years. If I’m leaving November and coming back December maybe by January I can go back ? bear. nomad

cripple if you leave on X December for four weeks, it resets X December the next year. That's how it has always worked for me. Once your'e back, you can't go again and be paid until the year is up, and it resets. And I would advise anyone planning on doing unpaid trips to get advice from International Services as to what wouldn't be stretching the friendship too far for residency purposes; and also to bear in mind they know how solvent we are, and if they think things aren't stacking up, will want to know how the trips are being funded. If you stay for six weeks, your DSP will start automatically when you return. The question about rent assistantance is probably best answered by Centrelink. Cheers bear

Thanks bearMy next question is If I am planning to leave to the philipines on middle of November should I tell Centrelink 6 weeks befor like Centrelink says on there website. Or should I tell them in the week befor like my mate told me to do ? And can I just call them to let them Know? What’s the best way to do this and what’s the process for Centrelink Thanks

I call International Services (131673) two to three weeks before I'm leaving cripple . They'll just put it into your file and they always send me a letter saying what my plans are. They don't seem to enforce the calling six weeks prior as your mates one week call testifies and my 2-3 as well. People I know swear it's true; they call them from the airport or when they arrive OS. Enjoy you holiday, cheers bear

Cripple,
I am with Bear on this one, even to go a bit further and say that you don’t even have to call them, they know your comings and goings as soon as you put your passport in the machine at the airport.
It was recommended to me by international services to give the a call when you get back, just in case.
