Hay
What are folk planning to do on January 26?
I'm thinking of eating shellfish.

My birthday is not till a few days after that. I will have a beer. What is the 26th about? Oh yeah, use to be first big horse race of Melbourne autumn carnival. First race meeting I ever went to with dad in late '60s. What an important date that was as I then went every year until it was hijacked.

"Invasion Day" for the 26th is a better appropriate term/description. It's especially a celebration for those in power.

You have never been to horse racing until you have done the BIG 4, Swan Hill, Kerang, Moulamein and Deniliquin!

Many, many years ago, when confronted by a communist bint that wanted to destroy all jobs in Australia I offered that we can bulldoze every Capital City in Australia directly into the sea. Would be great reefs for fish and the land would allow the wombats and kangaroos and koalas to come back. I can't wait until every coal mine and coal fired power station is shut down. Mind you, I'm not sure which country will have taken us over by then and there will certainly not be any pensions, unemployment, whatever. Go figure.

While that may be true or not Denis-NFA , it should of little concern to those of us calling somewhere else home. Yes; I was bred, born, raised and worked my butt off for the place; but it is no longer my problem. A friend on a three month visa gave me an earful the other day because of something I said about Ashtraya. He said, "That's a bit harsh dontcha think. Remember we're on the outside looking in mate!" My response was, "Well maybe you are bloke; but for ten years I've been on the inside, looking to get out." We agreed to disagree for the time being; however I'm meeting up with him this evening and we'll see where it all goes. By the way, Thailand is home for me now: and I'm glad for that. My main interest in keeping abreast of what's going on over there; is too know how lucky I am to have found refuge here, not to get all het-up about it. Cheers bear P.S. Wasn't "Ashtraya" one of your terms, or am I thinking of some other member?

My view on it all is that it seems to me that the religious right wing nationalist have hijacked both Australia day and Anzac day. They were previously just public holidays and now you are told you are unAustralian if you don't go to the March and have a barbie on the 26th. You were free to do those things if you wanted but not made to feel like a B if you didn't. It wasn't in the news like it is today. No one took any notice of either like these right wing nutters do today. Yes, I am happy to be in Thailand also. If only they had TAB's.

I have never been proud to be any nationality and after how I see people treated in Australia why would anyone be. I, like every human being, had no choice where I was born. Patriotism seems to be the major cause of all wars. Only a person who has lived in every country can say which one is best.

Patriotism seems to be the major cause of all wars. Only a person who has lived in every country can say which one is best. And just because it was best, doesn't mean it still would be now. Things can change at the drop of a hat, the flick of a switch and in the ballot box. Cheers bear

bearDoesn't sound like one of mine but given my work in the timber industry along the Murray River and the despair I have for those forests now that there is nothing stopping them from being completely burnt out then perhaps I'll take it on board.
