Excellent idea... boycott those stores who support the Cashless Debit Card...
Using figures from 2017...
In total, around 2.7 million people receive either an Age Pension or a Department of Veterans Affairs Service Pension, and around 2.6 million people receive other “working age” income support. In addition, there are around 1.54 million families with nearly 3 million children receiving either or both Family Tax Benefit Part A.
Add ALL that spending by those groups up and move them to IGA stores... those stores who support this card will feel an impact to profits.
Yesterday I rang Woolworths.I explained what would happen if they seriously supported the cashless welfare card along with Coles and Aldi.
I explained that I understood their need to make serious profit on this card and that they were attracted by the thought of big dollars but they should consider the consequences of this decision. The consequences would be as follows.I spend around $6000 per year on grocery items at Woolworths.
I would immediately cease shopping at Woolwoths and car pool with a friend to an IGA store(I cant find any evidence they are supporting this). As my friend also spends around $6000 per year thats $12000 in lost profit. Not much for a company like Woolworths or Coles or Aldi but consider this.
Iam a pensioner with about 10 pensioner friends. We could have a lovely day going to a small country town, shopping at IGA and having local coffee. This is around $60000 now in lost revenue per year and this is only in my small circle of friends. Now I know IGA will be forced to go along with this card if it is introduced but I am satisfied that in spreading this around on social media it gives these corporate giants something to think about. My complaint was duly recorded and passed on.I and my friends will not be intimidated by this govrnment.
