Hey guys
I was granted UP ago last year
I have a couple questions:
1. What’s the difference between UP and indefinite portability.
2. I have psychiatric conditions. Should I continue to see a psychiatrist for medical evidence just in case a review happens? I am treatment resistant and feel I am wasting money seeing the psychiatrist
3. I have seen others on this forum say that UP is forever and they can’t review you but my lawyer said that Centrelink as the right to review decisions at regular intervals. So what is the basis for you saying that the UP can’t be re assessed?
Thanks

Welcome mrjones . UP & IP are the same thing and we know of no one on UP being reviewed, because unlike DSP with its 2 year rule, for UP your condition must last for at least 5 years, therefore negating any need for review as far as we have been able to ascertain. In general, your lawyers are correct in what they say for DSP without UP, for which it would be better to have current up to date continuing medical treatment for your condition. They are also much better equipped than us here, to determine through the legislation whether people with UP can in fact be reviewed, though as already stated, we know of no one.

Welcome jonesy,If i remember correctly those granted DSP since 2012 are not being reviewed as they got it under the latest harshest ever rules. Before then it was easier so reviews are possible if you have been on DSP prior to then. Never heard of anyone with UP being reviewed either. but you just never know.

I appreciate your responses. It’s nice to know that you haven’t heard of anyone being reviewed. I was granted UP last year so we’ll after the 2012 changes.
Are any of you guys overseas atm? I was planning on moving to Thailand and then the world shut down lol

yes, there a quite a few of us in Thailand either on DSP UP or OAP. We cannot leave at the moment but don't really care either. i was due in OZ in early April but had to change to October and maybe not then either. Yes, it is far better being here than Australia these days. Who would have believed pensioners get better lives in Asia? I think that says it all about where politicians have taken us in last few decades. Even Cambodia or Laos is better these days.
