Labor wants govt virus data on disabled
Federal Labor says coronavirus data provided to the community doesn't include breakdowns on how the pandemic is affecting vulnerable people with disabilities.
National tallies of coronavirus cases and deaths don't reveal how the pandemic is affecting Australia's disability community, federal opposition frontbencher Bill Shorten says.Mr Shorten, who is Labor's spokesman for the NDIS, said while the government data includes breakdowns for aged care, there is nothing on how many people with disabilities have died or been infected. "The system of reporting aged care contagion and deaths is imperfect, but at least a system exists," he said in a statement on Sunday. In the UK, data indicates people with disabilities comprise two-thirds of all COVID-19 deaths in the country.Mr Shorten is calling on the minister for the NDIS, Stuart Robert, to order the National Disability Insurance Agency and the NDIA Quality and Safeguards Commission to publish data on Australia's disability community. He wants data on the locations of outbreaks in group homes and other facilities, the number of NDIS participants who have contracted COVID-19 and the number of NDIS participants who have died from the disease. "It would be a huge improvement on the current information blackout," Mr Shorten said. www.sbs.com.au/news/show-data-on-disabled-virus-impact-labor

I doubt the LNP even believes that the disabled deserve any of their concern as they don't really believe disability is real. Even if you had no arms no legs, were deaf, blind and mute, they would say you could work as a door stop. '

Welcome back ima. been a while. I'm even to the point where I believe in the possibility that they even want to kill off as many disabled as possible by ignoring the problem altogether. Not the first time in history someone has seen the disabled as a blight on their perfect society and tried to wipe them out. And Morrison gives many indications he could be doing the same with his religious ideology.

I'm going a bit nuts due to lack of social contact, but at least I am in relatively warm Queensland, with virtually no COVID19. I can't imagine what it must be like being disabled in Victoria, during Winter, and unable to go out except for essential things. And even then, only a few kilometers.

Thanks mate, I had been in Canada and went back to Australia was planning a 12 month stint in Thailand and looking forward to that beer with you, bear and banjo. Then the apocalypse hit, stuck in Aus now. Sadly your not that far off the mark regarding your comments on LNP, their leader and their ideology.

I'm far north QLD and we are pretty much free here, my family live in Victoria and they are miserable. I do hope a treatment or vaccine is in our near futures.
