Here is a reply to my email to Jenny Macklin. In my email, I put forward various arguments about the travel restrictions on Disability Support Pensioners, and I also included the quote of Wayne Swan's speech to Parliament in 2003. Interestingly, they requested my postal address and sent me a paper letter: perhaps they prefer paper letters/snail mail. Attachments:

I suppose we can take that as good news in that things will stay the same. (Good news as opposed to shortening the portability period).

I wrote to macklin asking her how it is that a married couple pension is significantly lower than a single pension. Ages have passed. Perhaps she can't figure out an answer that doesn't insult my intelligence. Still looking for supporters of a 'pensioners party"[?]

What do you call ages? I recently received a reply from minister Kate Ellis three months after I sent it off. Did you write and send by snail mail? I'm starting to wonder if these are actually taking considerably longer to get a reply than email.

I'd love to hear the actual DETAILED reasoning behind the difference between single and married rates. Sure, people can save a little on rent. But after that the savings are negligible.
When you complain about anything like this to Centrelink or another government department, the answer always devolves into "write to / speak to your federal member". But when they take such a long time to answer that you're not even sure if the ARE going to answer, it makes a mockery of the fact that they are our elected representatives..........and the fact that they get large allowances for correspondence, and have staff.
