A$2128 per month is good, then we have indexation in September. Does anyone know how much of an increase it will be? What is it like living back home these days on the full pension amount? Havn't been back for nearly 7 years, I don't plan to either after reading the cost comparison websites such as Numbeo etc. According to the websites most places are double the price of countries in SEA. If I was to depart Philippines I reckon I'de go live in Pakistan. It's about 40 to 50 percent cheaper than here.
Cheers J

After 6 weeks away we lose the supplement again. Living on it without your own home in Oz is nigh impossible. Even my backpacker place in Melbourne has had 50% increases in most bed prices in the last year alone. A$130.00 a night for private room. So all weekly pension gone in 4 nights. Dorm beds now A$50.00. Stay put like me. More will be joining us. Says it all to me when you can get a better life in Pakistan than in Australia today.

I think I'd be struggling JJJ88 even if I still owned a house because, everything; accommodation, food, fuel, rates, electric, rego, water costs have all risen substantially..... As for renting; not a hope.
Remember though, if the global plan comes to pass, "We (the poor disabled destitute) will 'alledgedly' own nothing and be happy.", and what they don't know won't hurt them....... So, if for some as yet unknown reason I was forced back, I've got a backup plan and could actually live a pretty good nomadic life well out of the way because; anyone that's a survivor, does what they must do in the end!! Cheers' 🐻

An online application for a tourist visa is a must prior to going there along with an invitation from a hotel or other accommodation. Visa can be extended upto 6 months or even longer subject to approval. While it would take a bit of extra planning and extra dollars to get there, according to what i've read online Pakistan has the lowest cost of living in the world. You just have to look at the prices online for hotels and other kinds of accommodation like longterm rentals to get an idea of how cheap it is there. The two C's, curry and cricket. Cheers J

There were visas available, business and work but I used to do 30 day tourist visas which was a bit of a pain... over to Thailand and a 3 hour train trip to the Lao consulate on Khon Kaen.

I love a few nights in Khon Kaen. nice cheap hotel with a great free live band every night out the front and some great st food. Always stopped on the way to/from Laos also out of choice rather than need.

I had a memorable New Years Eve at a hotel there in the company of a Finn and a Norwegian. Took me three days to recover.
