Too many non Thai locals that I'd probably not interact with in a month of Sundays up in your neck of the woods nomadic . Every foreigner that has initiated a conversation with me here has wanted money, to use my phone or to buy them beer.... Never just to have a chat; except for one young bloke keen on knowing more about a motorcycle I had at the time!! I'm definitely sorry to hear of your misfortune though. Cheers 🐻 My Mrs took me up there 20 years ago, we sat having dinner watching a group of wannabe hippies (junky farang according to herself who had worked a tour guide up there) across the road standing by the atm and working their phones. That comment is why you're the boss mate!! I had something similar written before my revision because, I didn't want to come off as being too judgemental and painting them all with the same brush. Cheers 🐻

Maybe someone who knew where you lived saw you in the bank? Odd that they knew your regular hiding spot though. Everybody is giving advice but none of it adds up. Even getting to my place means coming under the owner's watchful eye when she is at the reception and she was the whole time. Just to be forgotten about as soon as possible. S happens as they say. Back in dorms next time in MEL perhaps to offset it. And mama here instead of salmon. lol.

Sorry to hear nomadic. Not a nice feeling to experience. No, but not a pinch of how I felt after being robbed of passports and $2K in Manchester or my main bag in Melbourne only hours before my flight back. They were 100 times more stressful. And then again today as had just cooked 3 chicken fillets and left them out to cool but went to town today before putting them in the fridge and empty plates on return. The landlady was in fits of laughter after wondering where the 2 dogs got them from and I told her I was missing them. Thieves everywhere.

A pittance by comparison, but I was told yesterday that someone got off with the builder's large water cooler and 20 m extension lead about six weeks ago. Cheers 🐻

Well, the bus I would normally take from Bangkok to the beach as i mentioned that flight from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin would save me doing. One of them crashed today killing 14 people. You just never know.

It wasn't actually the bus I used. It was one just passing through the place I go. Talk of them banning all double-decker buses now. But actually 26,000 road deaths a year and nothing will ever change. No law enforcement is why and in 25 years I am still yet to see a single one of the millions who break the laws daily to be pulled over by a cop. In fact news today a very senior cop was 8 times over the limit when he crashed into a motorbike killing the woman on it. Doubt he will get more than a slap on the wrist. No chance of jail. It is the culture not to obey rules in general. Thais want to be free. And thousands dead is not a problem. But they were terrified of Covid with relatively fewer dead. A mask out on the highway with no chance of getting it but no helmet while driving at the speed of sound.

I actually quite like driving in Thailand, especially the general indifference to parking rules. I've never had an accident in twenty years though, but certainly a lot of close calls with motorbikes. Only last week I had a stretch of Highway 1 all to myself and crept up to near the speed limit only to have a motorbike try to cross in front without looking first.
