The extra support is designed to combat the rising cost of living.
Almost a million Australians on Youth Allowance, Austudy, Disability Pension and more set to see new year cash boost
Almost a million Australians are set to see a cash boost in the new year, as indexation to government payments takes effect from January 1.More than 936,000 Australians receiving youth, student or carer support will see a 6 per cent boost to their payments. The increases to payments ensure that Australians receiving support can navigate cost of living pressures, Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth said. “Australia’s social security system is a safety net that is continually strengthened and improved to support all vulnerable Australians,” Rishworth said. “Through regular indexation, our payments are adjusted in line with changes in the cost of living to retain their purchasing power.” Youth Allowance payments are set to increase between $22.40 and $45.60 a fortnight, while Austudy payments will increase by between $36.20 and $45.60 a fortnight. The Disability Support Pension for Australians aged under 21 years will also increase by $31.10 to $44.90 a fortnight. Carer Allowance will increase to $153.50 a fortnight for more than 600,000 carers. The January 1 increases follow on from a $40 a fortnight increase to youth and student payment rates, effective from September 20. The indexation increase is putting more money into the hip pockets of Australians who rely on the social security system for support, Rishworth said. A complete list of January 1 payment increases can be found on the Department of Social Services website. ministers.dss.gov.au/media-releases/13366

I assume we will get none of this little booty, we're just the economic migrants in all of this that none of the party's want.
I truly hope that they all get rear ended when Karma comes up and bite's them on the arse, preferably in very heavy traffic 🚦 when suffering from heavy diarrhea, followed by bouts of some very heavy sneezing.
There ya go mate's did I miss anything guys,Rant over for today I think 🤔🤣...

There ya go mate's did I miss anything guys,Rant over for today I think 🤔🤣... Cheers Itsa 😁 We're not actually missing out with this Itsa....... It's the ol' bait & switch, divide & conquer silliness that all governments love so much; aided and abetted by the media, that has been going on for a few years now. It caught me out when it first happened as well. IIRC it was another one of the last government's initiatives!! The cohorts receiving this CPl largesse will get another lot on 1 July; eg:- DSPers under 21's, youth, students or carers. While our cohort gets ours In March & September. Cost of living is currently topical so hey, let's run with that...... It just the standard CPI increase for a particular cohort, irrespective of how they try to dress it up. Cheers 🐻

itsmylife08If you really want to get to the 'ducks guts' of the matter you can follow the ABS indicators, Quarterly Consumer Price Index, and Monthly Consumer Price Index. While the CPI increases are important for all of us, and particularly for those living in Australia, I think for those of us living overseas the exchange rate has a more dramatic effect on our lives and life styles. Cheers Denis-NFA

My low income rent adjustments for January 2024 will increase by $30.00 .
So, I’m asking members “in the know”, What is the mathematical formula, ( as it would be placed in Excel for calculations )
DSP PAID: $#,###.## per fortnight Rent Amount: 25% of DSP fortnightly income Rent assistance ( I’m not sure what it is at base)
According to my calculation ( ex pinball wizarder at local fish n chip shop instead of math classes at primary school 1968 exam)
IF DSP for EXAMPLE is $1000.00 (single again male ) Per fortnight Then 25% of low income rent amount $250.00 Rent Assistance from Australian Gov Is ? ( South Australia community housing 3 bedroom)
Let’s say for example $20.00 So I pay $230.00 ?
In “reality” I have already been informed by my housing association in September 23 My current will increase from $410.00 to $440.00 per fortnight ,January 2024
I CAN figure out at the race track, when the bookies post 45/10 in means $4.50
But I cannot for the life of me and friends figure out how this next rise in our DSP calculates from Currently $410.00 per fortnight To $440.00 in January 2024 I have asked the rent department for the formula they use when calculating mine and others DSP low income rent. They “don’t know”, finance department didn’t know “The computer sorts it out” is the common pass-the-ivory tower-buck, answer. I am humbly grateful I have a roof over my head since 2002. I’m not complaining, just require transparency for clarity and end the boring chatter my friends and ARE struggling with this BS
Within the loop of our social circle of DSP recipients in low income housing, public, private , benevolent groups we are aware over 10 years ago, the South Australian state government at the time quietly change legislation, rent assistance from federal gov is now considered income. Not it is NOT income, it is titled Rent Assistance, but to the gov in SA it’s a back door hack to glean funds from Federal.
What increase in assistance???
So please, some transparency and fairness

Transparency & Fairness toward low income people from either tier of government...... surely you jest pete57ad If I'm not mistaken the $30 increase in RA your hoping to receive was announced in the September indexation but postponed until January 1, which is how the confusion in this thread was created. As far as I know there is no correlation between state low income housing costs and federal rent assistance and the majority of RA increases will be taken up by rent increases by lessors of every persuasion. Cheers 🐻 www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/how-much-rent-assistance-you-can-get?context=22206
