Hi, I'm meeting with my support coordinator tomorrow to contact NDIS to enquire about accessing supports overseas, I've come to know its generally cut off after 6 weeks unless falling under a small list of circumstances, none of which apply, I also read that the usual "grace period" of six weeks may be extended for other reasons. Sort of vague on that last one. Needless to say I'm looking into it.
I heard of a member here receiving NDIS funding overseas, though I don't know their user name.
Could anyone with any insight into this please let me know if they have any useful information about this please? Thanks

If that's the case charliepotatoes , you're better connected than many of us here. Plus the only way anyone on DSP can go overseas for medical treatment and be given paid portability is if similar treatment isn't available in Australia. Therefore given the largesse involved with some NDIS funding and the neverending numbers of service providers coming on stream, I find it highly unlikely that the government would be willing to share funding with any overseas entities. Please let us know any positive outcomes from your meeting with your support coordinator. Cheers 🐻

Make of that what you will. I made no mention of going overseas for the purpose of medical treatment as this in not the case. Additionally, there are several reasons in which a person receiving NDIS funding may be eligible to continue receiving funding overseas, for example. Study, family member working overseas, or family in army, navy or air force. access to medical treatment unavailable in Australia is merely one of said reasons. It is also noted that additionally, further reasons may lead a person to be eligible to receive funding overseas for a longer duration than the standard time frame of 6 weeks. This being the case, I will be enquiring as to whether I may have grounds to personally be eligible to receive funding overseas for longer than the standard duration. Thanks
