Has your email address been leaked in a data breach? Protect your myGov account. Use your myGov username to sign in and switch off email as your sign in option. Go to your account settings to make the switch.

Hopefully it's just excess traffic, but this is what I get from the link and going through a browser yields the same result at this time. Cheers ๐ป

Greetings to all
Given that I've been IP/UP for over 10 years do I actually need a MyGov account these days?
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I suppose not. Is there an option to close it? I doubt that I'd take this step personally.

I have never had one. So not missing anything I know of. No contact with them in 12 years since got UP.

myGov is an entity unto itself!! It took several phone calls for me to get a new account a couple of months ago after they'd done an upgrade on the sign-in process. My previous account was derailed when myGov wouldn't accept any of my secret question answers on the website. I'm now using a myGov app, though whether it's in an Alpha state or I'm just another Beta tester I couldn't say. Strangely it gives an option to sign-in as someone else ๐ Cheers ๐ป

Thanks BanjoIt wasn't so much that I want to close it but some years ago I authorised my son to deal with Services Australia and a while back he mentioned that he got some notice that my MyGov account might be shutting down for whatever reason and did I want to keep it open. He didn't see any point to it and I certainly haven't used it in years and just said forget about it. What I was more thinking about is the new Digital ID legislation, yet to be passed in The House but approved in The Senate, and what it will mean for those of us that don't have a MyGov account. Putting the cart before the horse perhaps but...

Can someone please explain what this digital legislation means for us,I completely missed out on it. Cheers Itsa ๐ Personally Itsa I see it as more government over reach to keep tabs on us all, using pollywaffle to blur the lines of finally having The Australia Card within their grasp. Below is some reading to get you up to speed. It's all over the internet. The good the bad the ugly, why we need it, why we don't, how our privacy will go to hell in a hand basket should it come to pass...... etc.etc.etc.. Cheers ๐ป Digital ID: What it is and what it means for youA widely accepted form of digital identification may soon be available in Australia. Here's what's being proposed.
Need to know Australians don't presently have a universally accepted form of digital identification The proposed "Digital ID" will function like a more powerful MyGovID The personal data you supply to get your Digital ID will be encrypted, making it difficult for any third parties โ including the digital identity provider โ to view or share it Most adult Australians already have one form of digital identification. That's the myGovID they use to interact with the ATO, Centrelink and Medicare. They may even have other forms of digital identification, such as one of the digital driver's licences that have proved popular with NSW motorists.
Or just possibly an Australia Post "Digital iD", which lets you confirm you are who you say you are when dealing with organisations ranging from Airtasker to the Australian Electoral Commission. But what Australians don't presently have is a universally accepted form of digital identification.
On this page: The current arrangements
What's being proposed? A Digital ID timeline The case against Digital ID Minister Gallagher and other parties have moved amendments to the Digital ID Bill 2024 and it has passed the Senate.
The Digital ID Bill 2024, together with the Digital ID (Transitional and Consequential Provisions) Bill 2024, is expected to progress to the House of Representatives in the next sitting period.

Excerpt from my previous post:- "The proposed "Digital ID" will function like a more powerful MyGovID". ๐คฃ Just what we need... a country wide debacle, rather than just an in-house one. Should we all bow and scrape to the pretensions of encryption when it's being broken on an hourly basis. I think not!! Cheers ๐ป
