Our situations are different, Chris. In my own, although I was bullied back, when I arrived I tried to find at least part-time work through a Job Network but was told that as I was not currently "resident in Australia", I was not eligible. So I phoned Centrelink and put pressure on them by pointing out the ridiculousness of the situation. I also clearly stated that I was staying in OZ. It took a while, and a couple of calls, but I was then deemed resident, and paid at the single rate. Even if you are returning to Thailand, I think you will be able to get the single rate whilst in Oz. BTW, I am in Thailand now and getting the single rate as I am only visiting my wife for 3 months, then returning. I was in Oz for 5 months before that though..... Hi latin dancer So initially Cl declared you non resident even though you were physically in Australia? Thats bizarre Had they cut off your pension altogether by this stage? I also have a separate question for you Presumably you informed C/l that you were married and that caused them to reduce your pension?( Did they send you a form for your partner to fill in) Is that the decision you are appealing with ssat or is it a residency issue? i should get my ssat decision this week by Thursday and if there is anything in it that might help you I will pass it along

That's ok Chris. I get computer fatigue regularly. It's an odd, rather dull mental state. Don't hold your breath regarding your SSAT decision. Although your personal situation is different, you need a very good reason to be regarded as NOT a couple, and get an exemption under section 24. Generally it's not applied if you're overseas. Please do post the outcome....I'll be interested, particularly since I'll be having an AAT hearing (the next stage) about the same thing as soon as I return to OZ, in September.

latin d i hate reading on computers myself but its the modern medium did your ssat get rejected then? Re being overseas This is cls favorite mantra BUT i have pointed out to Cl vigorously that section24( the law) makes no mention of where the person resides and to apply discretion selectively based on location is discriminatory Sec 24 alsoalso makes no mention of financial circumstances These are Cl guidelines made up by centelink personnel and are not necessarily legal However I have privately conceded my ssat as a awaste of time internally a long ago but am just moving through the stages Good luck with next stage I will follow and support where possible

It's hard on the eyes reading on computers but I've got LED screens now which makes it easier. I'm into eBooks as well and the iInk screen on the readers is just like reading the paper.

Bad news for both of us, Chris. I have been here OS for one month and received two payments at the single rate. Today I got an online letter .....a regular statement of current income.....and my payment has been reduced to the married rate. I am here visiting my wife for 3 months after being in OZ for 5 1/2 months. Seems like someone looked at my payments and saw fit to adjust them.
