Cost of a G/H room can start as low as $7. a night I had a two bedroom, 3 bathroom apt just 2 Klm from the city centre, it was 132 Sq meters, that cost me $250, a month plus elect plus water, so less than $300 a month with everything.

Wow that sounds good, sounds like a visit is warranted. Are there any visa issues banker?

No Visa issue at all thats one of the main reasons expats from Thailand are going there. On arrival fill in your card @ the airport & tick the box for a tourist visa $20, & that give you 30 days which can be extended once only. OR tick the box ordinary visa (Before known as a business visa) $25. good for 30 days then you can extend that for 3-6-or 12 months, 1 year visa will cost $280. to do the extension just take your PP & 2 pictures to " Lucky Lucky" motor bike on Monivong Bld pick up your PP in 2 days with your new visa, no need to fill in papers or anything else, a 6 or 12 month visa will give you multiple entry's. Hope that helps. More info here: www.australianpensioner.org/travel.htmland pictures here: www.australianpensioner.org/cambodiapics.html

Thats brilliant Banker, cheers. Where would you say the best place to live would be for an expat? Stay there for about a month and check it out as everyone has a different idea as to the best place, stay around riverside to start & move around from there. Some people like Cambodia & some hate it.. its one of those places.

Much the same as I told him. Don't take too much notice of The Khmer Embassy web site it hasn't been up dated since 2008. Never bother with the Khmer Embassy in Bangkok they don't do anything. I don't think you can get a " Business Visa" at any Khmer Embassy only at the airport on arrival & the land border crossings but they will rip you off on the price, they wanted me to pay 1,500B at the Hat Lek crossing once that's about $50.

This is an interesting book for those seeking a cheaper lifestyle and relief from their disabilities: Here is the 21 countries the author says are the cheapest countries in the world: Indonesia Thailand Malaysia Laos Vietnam India Bulgaria Hungary Romania Guatemala Honduras Nicaragua Nepal Morocco Egypt Jordan Turkey Bolivia Peru Ecuador Argentina I would say he has missed quite a few, as almost all of the countries in Southeast and South Asia are very cheap. I don't know who that moron was, who put Hungary in that list. HUN became one of the most expensive country in the world!!!! Though beer and alcohol in general is cheap!! ;D -as anywhere in EU.

Yes, I agree with you Roxane, Hungary should not be on that list. I think the book was published quite a few years ago, before Hungary reaped the full benefits of converting from Communism to Capitalism, joining the EU and NATO. Here is an attempt at guesstimating an updated list of the "World's Cheapest Destinations". These are guesstimates of the cost of living as a percentage of the cost of living in Australia. Indonesia-inner/southern islands 20% Indonesia-outer/northern islands 30% Thailand 30% Malaysia 50% Brunei 90% Singapore 80% Laos 25% Vietnam 30% Philippines 30% Myanmar 30% -but prices are in flux at the moment Timor-Leste 50% Papua New Guinea 70% China-provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet 40% China-east coast cities 80% India 30% Bangladesh 30% Nepal 30% Pakistan 30% Sri Lanka 30% Bulgaria 60% Romania 60% Portugal 65% Guatemala 30% Honduras 30% Nicaragua 30% Morocco 30% Egypt 30% Jordan 40% Turkey 50% Iran 40% Bolivia 30% Peru 30% Ecuador 25% Argentina 40% Fiji 60% Samoa 50% Madagascar 40% Malawi 40%
