I'd put Thailand at about 35% and Cambodia at 30% now . . . costs are rising rapidly with petrol rises . . . and Phnom Penh is a property boom town for Chinese and Koreans. But Banker is right, around Siem Reap they went mad building "new" houses in the last boom, so you can rent a nice house for $300 p/m. But electricity is a killer. And anything right near the "CBD" action is expensive. Go to the expat Forums for all that stuff, not here.
I may be over in Cambodia soon, but won't be looking at a house right (ahem, as DSP Prisoner No. blah blah) I can only take a holiday. So a $15-17 buck swish questhouse come hostel come hotel is the go. Aircon, wi-fi, pool, breakfast, free tuk tuk into town.

It's a "how long is a piece of string" scenario isn't it? I rented a flat in Vientiane back in the day for $480 US a year and it was quite respectable and well located.

Yup I'll be in PP in a couple of weeks as well. It is the type of place where you can live as cheaply or expensively as you or your demons want. I don't drink and I rarely partake in pleasures of the flesh I have to pay for so I can live on the cheap.
