Hi, I am Pan. I started writing to Kevin Rudd about these changes as soon as he was elected leader of the Labor party. He answered favorably to my suggestions and said they would look into it. After some years nothing was happening. He was great leader and i had been passed of to the woman in charge of the department responsible. After two replies from her Gingrich only stated what the current laws were i replied with this in capital letters "I KNOW WHAT THE RULES ARE. I WANT YOU TO CHANGE THEM." then i stopped going to branch meetings and no longer paid for membership. I traveled as much as I could cope with on the 3 month leash until a year ago when I could no longer physically or mentally or emotionally deal with the flights , customs and stress. last year a friend told me about the impending changes in July. since this month I have been trying to find out when and how to get the assessment and permission. center-link knows nothing about it. so i talked to Kevin Rudd and now his office is supposedly looking into it for me. It has been a week so far. I will give it till next week and see them again if i get no news. I have asked for clarification of these details and also if i went out in first week of April on the 3 month leash and already had permission to live out after 1st .July would I have to return for a day or could I stay out? As travel causes me so much pain and suffering I would prefer to only have to fly out one more time. Lets hope it can be done.

By the way. the new rules and reasons given for them are 90% plus what I proposed and the reasons for it. I feel good about that. but no one from the government ever contacted me to tell me that my proposals had been accepted and were going to be law. basically the only difference was that I had proposed changes for over 55's and the new rules are free of age restrictions. However there may be some 55 plus people who they wont let out if they think they might still get some work out of them. I recall decades ago that it was virtually impossible for people over 55 to get work even if they were fit and educated though. I am about to turn 60 so cant see any problem for me also I am a physical wreak and a mental pain in the ass. Bon voyage to all of you who will finally have justice and freedom under the new rules. May your new lives be all that you hope for.

Welcome to the board Pan, nice to have some one along who knows how to talk to politicians. Not sure how Gingrich got into this but I agree whole heartedly about the pain and stress of regular international plane flights.
