Disability Support Pension changes On 1 July 2010 Centrelink policy changed to revise the definition of a “manifest grant” of Disability Support Pension. Centrelink has a list of conditions where a manifest grant should be made on diagnosis alone, including some kinds of cancer. There is a second list of conditions where a manifest grant may be possible following contact with the person’s treating doctor. From 1 July 2010 new Disability Support Pension recipients may be contacted by Centrelink to take part in a new initiative called the DSP workforce re-engagement contact strategy. The aim of the initiative is to provide advice to Disability Support Pension recipients about taking part in work, study, training and volunteer activities. Participation is voluntary. Also from 1 July 2010 Centrelink will be sending letters to people receiving Disability Support Pension who report income or who stop getting Disability Support Pension due to employment to advise about programs and services available to help people receiving Disability Support Pension maintain work. No response is required to this letter, although where a person would like more information about employment options or help keeping their job, they can call a Job Access number 1800 464 800. www.welfarerights.org.au/pages/September%202010%20Bulletin.aspx
