Ihave applied for umlimited dsp ,got answer 3 mnths later saying unapprover and have asked for an appeal ,how long will this take Have you been through the Administrative Review process? That can take a while, mine was nearly 6 months but I was one of the first applicants and they don't like me anyway. Keep on at them, rattle their cage about it every week or so, go to Welfare Rights and ask them to help you.

Thanks dinky, we're pretty much cost free on this message board but later this year we may look at doing some work the AustralianPensioner.org website which could need a little funding. Leave it for now and see what happens.
When the legislation on portability changed in the past those people on the DSP who were living outside of Australia were "grandfathered" which meant they were exempted from the new rules with certain provisions. It hasn't happened this time, if you wish to travel overseas as you please you need to apply for the unlimited portability.
If you wish to do a couple of trips a year of 6 weeks or less then you probably won't have a problem.

There is an international agreement, not sure how it works though.

Evening all. Well lodged the UP today with CL. now i wait for notification of JCA. Interestingly I leave for SE Asia at the end of the month. I live rurally, so in my office all staff are freindly and will go out of their way to help, i suppose i am lucky as i know of instances to the contrary. They said i should be able to have my interveiw before i leave. So fingers and crossed (and everything else ) Ta Ta

Good luck with that then.
Be careful of your "friends" at Centrelink, there's at least one guy here been cut of this year after telling me he was good mates with his local manager.

I got back from Thailand on the 8th March. I was away since October 29th 2012. I spoke to c/l on March 12 and asked for paperwork for unlimited portability. I was told by the lady on the phone that I could also apply for an extension of the 6 weeks and would need a doctors medical report to be reviewed before leaving. I don't know if that is correct. Does anyone know?
My forms arrived on 18th March. Pretty quick only 6 days.

Is the extension for the time required to submit the forms Sceptic? I can't see why they would want the doctor's report separately from the other stuff. Have I got this right? I'm recently returned myself and a bit zoned out, the flights are getting harder and harder.

I'm recently returned myself and a bit zoned out, the flights are getting harder and harder. The lady I spoke to on the phone said that I didn't necessarily need to apply for unlimited portability as I could just apply for an extension of the 6 weeks allocated now. In other words before you need to travel overseas again just apply for more than the 6 weeks, tell them how long you wish to be away for and they will let you know. But she did say it involves getting a doctors certificate first. As I said I haven't heard that it was possible to ask for more than 6 weeks other than having to apply for U/P

The only thing this could possibly refer to is the "unable to return through ill health" rule, which in my experience is about as achievable as 6 numbers in cross lotto. One of our members is currently stuck overseas with an ear infection that prevents her flying and... you've got it... no pension. I would be extremely careful with this and would want it in writing before I left.

I sent my forms for U?P on the 17th of April and since I hadn't heard anything back from c/l I called them today, and lo and behold just as I suspected, I was advised that there was nothing on their system. In other words they hadn't received them, they somehow must of got lost in the mail.
To cut a long story short I resubmitted them at a c/l office and was given an appointment for an assessment in about a weeks time from now.
Does anyone know if you have to fill out the Work capacity section as it says and I quote "Who should complete this form? This form should be completed by a person with a disability, illness or injury who is looking for work and is applying for a Centrelink payment or claiming a pension from another country." I didn't fill this section as I am not looking for work but in my conversation with c/l international today I vaguely recall the lady from c/l mentioning something about work capacity. Any help would be appreciated as it could possibly mean another trip to the c/l office tomorrow.
