Hi guys just an update on my situation I'm still waiting to hear from Centrelink about my application for IP its been a month now the suspense is killing me. Had another CT scan the other day found out I've got Arthritis in my spine now as well, should I tell them now or wait and use it as further ammunition in the future just in case I'm turned down.

It looks like they're taking a bit of time now, the staff cuts at Centrelink are starting to bite.
The IP can only be based on one impairment, if your back was your principal disability then the arthritis would increase the point count. I really don't know if you can send the new report in, your file is probably on someones desk and they may not be able... or want to... add anything at this stage.
It may be worth giving Welfare Rights a ring, see what they say.

Personally I would give it to them because it's a change in your circumstances that they 'should' take into consideration in assessing your application. In the event of a refusal it will form part of an appeal and they will know that. The wait for a decision seems forever. I wish you well.

Hi guys just a quick update on my situation I spoke with a local Centrelink representative today who advised me that my application for IP hadn't been decided as yet but was on a senior officers desk, I then asked if it had been through the panel system to which she replied oh I don't know anything about that its not my area. I called Centrelink International after waiting an eternity I finally got through and enquired about the status of my application, I gave all the required information the operator then informed me that no decision had been made yet as they were still dealing with applications for June/July and that mine had only been lodged last month, fair enough I thought I then asked when could I expect an answer re- my application hmmm about 1-2months was the reply. I said ok ### thanks very much for you time you have been very helpful have a nice day. Mixed emotions as you can imagine as well as Information

Hi guys.
I'm new to this forum (posting), but have read it before it aiding me in the past.
I have been on the DSP for sometime now, and only stuck around in Australia for the past few years or so to organise getting on it (at a turtle's pace of course).
But now that I have been on the DSP for a while now, I wish to live overseas as I have been planning for a long time now.
I wish to take the test for UP, however I wished to take my time with it too. But now, with the change of government I fear I should get to it and sort it out before things really turn for the worst. I plan to get to centrelink tomorrow and talk on the phone to the international department (is that what they are called?) and suss it out.
I have read bit of this thread and others, but am still not 100% sure what I'm up against.
So basically, I have to undertake a test again to see how... unfit I am? I will need to see my doctor again? And then I'll have to see a centrelink person for an interview which will ajudge me through this point system they have? Is that the one hour interview I have read people mention?
I can't deny I am indeed afraid to do this process (again?), yet I need to do it, so I would appreciate any information people could give me on what I will have to go through...
Cheers!

Welcome to the Forum crow. You need to ring Centrelink International, 131673 and give them intent to apply. They will then post the forms to you. This is the only way it works. the local office cannot help you other than let you use their phones to ring if you only have a mobile. One is for the quack, have a talk to him and see that he's aware of the assessment tables, you have to get 20 points in ONE impairment. If he's doubtful you need to make the decision on whether to go ahead with it. Read the tables, specifically the one for your disability. guidesacts.fahcsia.gov.au/guides_acts/ssg/ssguide-3/ssguide-3.6/ssguide-3.6.3.htmlI wouldn't leave it any longer.

So I finally got my forms in recently. I hope I made the right decision, but I am now going to be with my family in the Philippines (post-typhoon...) in less than a month now, and though I would like to stay, I feel I will probably come back sooner than I want so I don't automatically lose my DSP... I realise, because the current estimates of waiting time for decisions on UP seem to be a few months, at least, I will probably be back in Australia before a decision is even made.
Thanks for the help, I'll let y'all know how it goes, when I know...

G'day Guys,
New to the forums as well. Wish I had discovered this place when I applied for unlimited or in definite portability.
I just went into my local C/L and asked for portability forms which they gave me and warned me that I could loose my DSP if I go through with it. I was confident in that I wouldn't loose the DSP and had my Doc fill out the Medical part with me doing my part then sent them off.
Met with JCA some 3weeks later, this was back in June of this year. He told me I should get an answer within four weeks. A letter he said to be exact. Four weeks came and went and no letter. I went into C/L and inquired as to what's going on they told me to be patient and wait for said letter.
I ended up going into C/L each month and had them ring International each time I went in they kept telling me due to a back log of applicants I would have a 6 month wait or more before being notified.
I then went into C/L on Dec 23, sat and waited for almost two hours until I was called to see someone. Again I asked my usual question what's going on with my portability? Woman there turned her PC screen around so I could see it I read the C/L mumbo jumbo until I got to the part that said indefinite portability granted.
I thought they would have notified me as it was granted on the 20th. Anyways I got it, Finally! According to C/L or the woman I saw there, she said all i have to do now is just go back in and tell them when I'm ready to leave. We'll see how that goes. I got them to print out my JCA report as well.
itsmylife08: Yes, give them all info you have pertaining any disability and yeah, It's a long wait until you get an answer. I wish you all good luck. Oct 13, 2013 at 11:25pm

Welcome to the board Muttley.
Wow, that was a long wait, I suspect that Centrelink has reduced the number of staff handling the assessments now they consider the initial rush to be over.
They will ask you if you are leaving the country permanently and whether you want your pension paid into an overseas account, there's no trick attached to this, choose what is most convenient for you.
Good luck and enjoy being free.

G'day, Thanks Banjo.
I do have some questions. I understand most of you guys would travel to if not live in parts of Asia. I would be looking to move to Europe. If I were to have my pay paid into an acc in EU rather than here, I guess the exchange rate isn't going to be that much different?
The other thing on my mind is Marriage. I already know that moving OS I would lose some of my pension. I am concerned just how much I would lose if I Marry. Any comments welcome and appreciated, thanks again.

We have an ongoing discussion on exchange rates and bank fees but I'll confess that I do what is easiest. Use an Australian Credit Union and withdraw at a low/no fee overseas ATM.
I'm still too young for marriage so I have not given it much thought, in theory you could be reduced to half the DSP married rate.

So wait, this mention of reduced DSP whilst overseas is just if you get married right?
I think I'll go into centrelink on monday and talk to them about how long I am expected to wait, etc upon a decision on my UP.
Cheers!
