Hello Thomas. Residing in Australia, as a DSP with a Carer, is a married pension rate. Residing overseas in Thailand as a DSP is one half the married rate with no Carer rate. Money is less, but the quality of life is more, much more. Good luck with the application and with the move. Thanks Peter. I have considered the move for some time now, money will be less as you say but will go a lot further than in Oz. no rent here in Thailand. Living is easy. A friend of mine and his family calculated the cost of living here to be 20% of that of Oz. Cheers and I will keep the forum informed of my application.

Hello All. As one who has been travelling o/s for the last 2 yrs, and coming back every 3 months, i was told last week by c/l that i needed a review and jca. I am 55. I have been on DSP since 2003. I must admit that I am quite not ok with this. Even the JCA form itself, says on the front of it in small letters: (this form should be completed by a person with a disability who is looking for work and is applying for a cl payment or obtaining a pension from another country). Correct me if i am wrong, but this form, seems to me is not the right form. and also if any of us can remember, didnt we fill out one of these forms when we initially got DSP?...something to think about! I leave again at end of month, of which they approved. however i will be going with a cloud hanging over my head always wondering what is going to happen next to upset those who truly are uunable to live here in aud due to medical circumstances.

Hello Nikita sorry you have to do a review, will they review you under the old impairment tables becasue you got the pension before 2006 or do they review you under the new tables bought in in 2011?

Centrelink do not "approve" our travel, the truth is they cannot stop you leaving. What they can do is declare you a non-resident and stop your payments. This can happen only days after they acknowledge you leaving. The form for the unlimited portability should come with your name printed on it. If you have any problem with it, take it to Welfare Rights in your home state.

they say the dsp IS for helping u in Aussie for expenses
So where in the legislation does it say this?
Where does it say how long you can spend out of Australia before you lose your pension?
It doesn't, Centrelink make it up as they go along.

When you think about it, its a form of discrimination Centrelink stopping people on DSP from living where they want. It is hard to understand why the government wants people on DSP to stay in Australia as the government save a lot of money by people living overseas. I guess they like having us under the thumb...
