yep, looks like i may be heading to cambodia you just have to go in, pay $25 for a business visa at the border, and then extend it for 12 months ($285) and then every year after that you just have to extend it for another 12 months without leaving the country (no border runs, yay!). easy as!

It's an interesting country and anyone who may not have spent time in Asia may experience a little culture shock. I personally found it very attractive but I know a couple of guys who couldn't take it after only a week or so.

I stayed in Cambodia for 5 years and loved the place. Its one of those country's you either love or hate. Enjoy your time there.

If its your first ever trip to Asia you probably wont like it, the culture shock is to in your face. Im with Banker I would move there in a flash if my GF wasnt in Thailand.
Its a shame Banker was run out of town the way he was, to much butterfly gets you in all sorts of strife..

When in Cambodia please be very careful of the slippery tiles on Bathroom floors, yes this also applies in other parts of Asia but seems to be worse in Cambodia.
The reason I mention it is because I have just heard about the death of a good friend of mine in Sihanoukville.
He slipped on the bathroom floor and died from a clot on the brain. He was a good friend and a gentleman, he will be sadly missed by me and others.

Yeah Cambodia you pay as long as you want to stay as easy as that, you never have to leave. Malaysia you get 3 months, maybe come and go back as you please, One of my relatives managed to get a 2 year visa for turkey with the help of friends there. really the catch for giving up residency is you miss out on aussie healthcare..

And I reckon takeo, avoid the roads in Cambodia and your are alright, though say between Snooky and Kampot well, that is a dream ride. But I think the biggest issue now is not UP but keeping your Medicare. People can talk all they want about good top end Thai hospitals, etc. But when I was last in a proper Oz major hospital (for, ahem, jaundice) it was like being invited on the deck of Spock's Star Trek. They had maybe a couple dozen patients, 100 million in technology, up to 12 specialists teaming at your bed of a morning. If you really have a shitload of ailments, and unlike the Yanks no cheap medivac insurance, then no way would you want to lose the Medicare form of residency. Back to the thread theme: base yourself in Koh Kong, Cambodia on the one year visa, and hey, no probs getting up the road anyday to Koh Chang, or Trat, or BK for a bit of semi first world comfort.

Heading to Cambodia in November for a look around, I hear the business visa also allows you to fly in and out as many times as you like, is that correct. Will my United Nations International bike licence obtained in Indonesia pass police inspection there. Lol.
