Heading to Cambodia in November for a look around, I hear the business visa also allows you to fly in and out as many times as you like, is that correct. Will my United Nations International bike licence obtained in Indonesia pass police inspection there. Lol. Mate with the visa you have to extend for six or twelve months to get multiple entry. With the licence they will use that as an excuse to get money off you. You are better off getting a Khmer Licence. Take you Australian licence with you and then its easy to get a Khmer Licence.

United Nations International bike licence are not valid in any country.
only international DL issued by RACV together with ur aussi licence is legal or you get a local licence.
i seen guys in thai getting in trouble cos they got those funny UN licence and were stopped by police.

We are talking about Cambodia tim? The only thing the cops will accept is money. If you have a Khmer Licence your safe from their corruption.

I've never been asked for a drivers license in Thailand and used to drive regularly in a heavily check pointed area. Passport only.

You are wrong again tim. In Thailand No licence No problem just 200B and off you go, this may increase in the next few months with the cost of living going up all the time.

I hate to seem contradictory but I've never received any bribe "signals" from the police in Thailand. Possibly different in the larger cities. But then I spent a year in the Lao PDR without paying a bribe either... must be my honest face and innocent boyish good looks.

It seems to be a knee jerk reaction with most foreigners in Asia to reach for their wallet when a problem comes up. I prefer the smile and look dumb (not hard for me I know) defence.

I live in a heavily patrolled area and highway cops have office about 500 metres down the road with a permanent road block and army checking now. I never hand my licence over, just let him see it but I dont hand it over, once they got it you gotta get it back. I quite often travel with my dog in the back, the local cops know me and the dog and generally wave me thru, suspect harry intimidates them lol (65 kg rotty) all good fun cheers

I have found in Thailand i do this. I photo copy in colour my International Drivers Licence an keep one in my car or on my motorbike. I have been pulled up a few times an I have just showed them that an well, they get confused as hell because it is just a piece of paper that gives them really nothing. I would not hand over my real Australian Licence at all. I have always then just been waved through. I better get a full Thai Drivers Licence now since I will be spending much more time there.
I used a Education Visa for the last 4 years to make my life easier. Around 26,000 a year. I only have four more years until I can apply for retirement. I said, well, I better learn some of the language skills an learn how to basically read an write. I just used my mornings at school as a outing to meet others an I can speak just well enough Thai now to talk enough BS to pass it through the immigration sections when reapplying.
I have been back in Australia about a year (but did a trip to Chiang Mai for 3 months in March) to do UP. Since that is approved, I will have to do the school thing for another 4 years till I can retire in Thailand at 50. All good....
All is good.
