Your 365 days resets on the anniversary of your having left the country (so count from the day you left). But also call Satanlink International as they'll be able to give you your reset date for sure.

I have called Centrelink International.
Answer is,,,, 365 days counted from the day you return !!!! Bugger Bugger Bugger. This means ,, I won't miss the winter in Australia,,, Last 3 years I've gone in deep winter. And every year,, it's going to go forward another 28 days at that rate . This sucks ,,,,

The last winter I spent in Australia I was lucky enough to get a house sit in far North Queensland. Fantastic weather, a little rain but it was warm rain, beautiful scenery and cheap home grown fruit and veg sold at the side of the road. If I ever have to give up on Asia I'm gonna buy a tent and camp in that guy's backyard.

This sucks ,,,, I believe that is what they told you but I don't think it is correct. If allowed 28 days in a calendar year and you go for 28 days , your count should begin the day your day count reduces to 27 days, this is 1 year and a day after you left the previous year. If you leave on the 1/1/2016 and stay away for 28 days, on the 2/1/2017 you have only spent 27 days away in the last year. Considering they count the day you leave and the day you return as full days , it might be necessary to count an extra day. You should be able to go away at the same time every year provided you only go for 27 days.

We both seem to be wrong in our estimation. It all makes my sense ,, surprise suprise . If what they said is correct ,, I'll actually get to go again 13 months ( ish) from the the day I left last year,, because your counting from return date . I'll call again a few times ,, and see what the average answer is ,, keeping receipt call number . I can't afford to be away,, and not be paid of course . When away my bills don't stop at home,, so one has to really keep it going both ends at once. Sigh 😔 I'll keep you posted .

If this is the case,, one could not go home ,,( overseas ) ,, for Xmas every year,,, Sucks . Tho I will get a second and third opinion .

I've been Overseas 2 years in a row, since the change(28 days). The "365 day period" starts from the day you LEAVE AUSTRALIA! This is 100% accurate and there is no need for further discussion. Anyway, I suggest contacting Centrelink International before travel and asking them for the confirmation. If you've been Overseas last year, they will calculate and tell you exact date when you are allowed to leave the country this year(that's what I did).DO NOT CONTACT LOCAL CENTRELINK, ONLY INTERNATIONAL!

I'm hearing you. I did call Centrelink international,, ,, but they said thus,, counted from the day after I got back last time . Makes no reasonable sense to me either ,, sigh.

I forgot to mention that I was overstaying both times(4 extra weeks) but as I said the departure date counts. Every time before my departure I got the letter from C/I that states how long I will be paid. Try to call few more times and speak with a different person. Also(that's what I did) before calling C/I, email Welfare Rights Centre(volunteer@wrcsa.org.au)and they will check everything for you. They usually reply within 48 hours.

Yep, that's my plan ,, to call a few more times at least ,, see what the average answer is. And take it from there . I did ask, are you sure ? .This is weird and really doesn't make sense ,, etc etc , But she stuck to it ,, that's just how it is etc . Mind ,, said ,, because I'd taken it in one block ,, if 28 days,, but upon questioning,, well,, you know how they are . I was taking my neighbour,, who has already booked her time off work ,, now she will be going alone ,, so it's already a fail,,, and im a tad embarrassed. You'd think 28 days a year would be just that ,, not so. I'll keep you posted . Cheers

I've emailed the minister, I'll post the reply when it arrives.
Claiming anything from Centrelink is 100% accurate and needs no further discussion is a little optimistic.
