Hey everyone. How's your exchange rate doing?
Mine seemed to be the lowest it's been in a longtime.
I'm being payed monthly into a local bank here in the Philippines and my pay was about P4000 Pesos lower than usual due to the AUD to USD (at the time of payment) was about 65-66 cents AUD. Talk about feeling the pinch also with the really high inflation. This increase for us pensioners will help to an extent I spose.
Hope everyone overseas is as well as they can be.

I get my pension on a fortnightly basis, primarily because they still regard me as a Resident. That may be about to change in the next few months if I don't make a quick visit back home for a week or so, that's how it works I believe plus having an Oz bank account.
As far as the exchange rate goes it has been pretty good for about a year or so lingering around 37/39 pesos or there abouts, and as will happen all good things come to an end it is now around 36.40 pesos to the AU$...
Hang in there JJJ88 my good mate as the saying goes what goes up must come down and vice/versa...

Exchange rates!!
It cost Aud$40,000 to bring Bht1,000,000 into Thailand when the rate was higher so as to satisfy immigration. That same million on today's FX rate is worth Aud$43,600 and at reported airport rates in Oz of 18Bht-1Aud should be worth Aud$55,500.
Swings & Roundabouts..... Glass half full, Glass half empty.....
My next pay will possibly be less than my last one.... My 🏧 still gives me money..... If you ever want to go back to Oz permanently, wait until it's lower than you never thought probable......

The current exchange rate between the AU$ and the Philippine Peso is 36.46, that's ok as long as it doesn't go any lower, ill be fine.  On another entirely different issue, I'm still waiting for my debit card to arrive from Australia. It's been more than 1 month since my card expired, and therefore I cannot withdraw funds at the ATM as Citibank has sold up here as well, which means I cannot withdraw over the counter. Union bank has taken its place, I'm not sure if it is a subsidiary of NAB Australia which has taken over the commercial branch of Citibank. So there you have it, I've peso less since 28th February, not a nice situation I can tell you. I've contacted customer service, what a waste of time you might as well be talking to Bill and Ben the flower pot men, you would get more sense out of them. The worst part is knowing that my pension has been paid into my account, and I can't touch it, talking about giving you the irits... Cheers Itsa  |

I use Aussie mail man to redirect my mail, works well for things like cards from banks etc.

Itsa for an Aussie bank account if you are left cardless there is a way to phone up the bank then deal with a 3rd party company that some how wires the money to Western Union for pick up. I can't remember the exact details but that's what I did back in 2012 when I couldn't use my Aussie ATM card. Itsa you gotta call the number for lost or stolen cards.

I've read the article, it sounds pretty ok I guess. I may be interested in having an Aussie address while overseas, and also maintaining a close association with Oz for obvious reasons. How do the prices compare with other services? I'd like to have a comparison. Cheers Itsa |

Bear I remember when it was AUD$1.10-USD$1, that was when Julia Gillard was PM in 2011 me thinks. Lets see if it happens again now we have an ALP Government. If I could ever be so lucky. Interesting forecast aswel Bear Cheers J |

itsmylife08 Philpost is VERY unreliable unless you use EXpress Post and get a tracking number. If it fails to arrive soon I would call Citibank on 00-61-2-8225-0615 and have an emergency card made and have it sent to your Phil address via express or Courier post and make sure you get a tracking number. When you call Citibank Australia you will most likely be redirected to the Citibank Office in BGC, Taguig, Manila and will be talking to Filipinos. Just got to persist with them and make sure they understand you urgently need acccess to your money. You can call Citi with a Skype subscription or the local carriers do pretty cheap overseas calls. For example you could subscribe to Globe GOCALLIDD, 200 pesos will get you a few long calls to Australia. Another EXCELLENT option is to link your Australian Citibank account to a Remitly service and transfer funds to the Philippines. You can do cash pickups at Palawan Pawnshop, BDO and bunch of other places. Remitly can be reached on www.remitly.com/au then follow the prompts where you send money to the Philippines. To get your Remitly account varified you will need to do a few ID checks (maybe take a photo of your passport with the phone you call them on). |

Tell me about Philpost Omg. I'd like to clarify how my situation developed in the first place. Initially, my card was to expire at the end of Feb, I was told a replacement card would be sent out 2 weeks before expiry. It was about a week or so into March when nothing had arrived that I started to become a little bit concerned.
It was at this stage that I decided to call Citibank customer service to express my concerns. I explained the situation to them, during the course of the conversation, I was informed that the card must have been lost/stolen, so as a precautionery measure they had already cancelled the card and issued another one.
Alarm bells began to ring, but I havent asked you to cancel my card I'm only calling to inform you of it's status, too late mate the operator said.We'll send it by priority post. (Yeah sure) To cut a long story short this never hapened, it was sent by Pony express.
Low and behold, the very next day the original card arrived, I was beside myself with delight, but guess what the fn thing was already cancelled, so I'm still waiting here for the card to arrive 2 months later.
There are personal circumstances which I wont go into for obvious reasons, but by my best estimate I'll receive my card mid April, which means no access to my funds which are already in my account, but I cant access...
Who said life was simple.
