so are we still talking 1st of july for the permanent portability for severe cases or is that now January as well In light of whats happened, should us guys that are rated 8-14hr work capacity, bother waiting for what happens on the 1st July. Seems we may as well send of for our FOI and apply for full portability. Is there any down side to this?

Spacey usually sits back in portability and residency discussions, most of her problems are related to bad Centrelink decisions in other areas. Her knowledge of how the system works... or doesn't work... is always valuable though.

Hi Zorro
I was busy for a few days and have only just encountered these new posts. I am stunned.
As I said recently, lately I am just over C/lL's subterfuge, their corruption and their failure to accept any accountability for the lives they destroy.
This is just more of the same.
I have recently toyed with the idea, that if they put me on Newstart in July, and my payment will be $80 more than my rent for the fortnight, that I will move overseas.
They say you now cannot live abroad, if you have the ability to work. Well where the heck are the jobs?
Latin has just worked for no pay, in the hope of landing a job in 5 months time. My son applied for a job, and is expected to pay $100 for the training, without the promise of a job at the end.
I would say the company my son applied to, who seems to have a huge contract with government schools to teach physical activities, will be allowed to bill employment agencies for the $100.
The employment agencies will also get paid for sending the kids on the training. Yet only a handful of them will walk away with a full time job.
More money for the boys, less for the disabled or disadvantaged.
I might get on a plane to Tahiti. Then walk into a Village and offer my knowledge and limited physical abilities, in return for a thatched roof and a vegetarian meal each day.
Screw living in a country that is forcing its citizens into poverty and slavery, while squandering our wealth on their own debauch pleasures. Life wasn't meant to be this hard.
PS. They didn't leave the OAP'ers alone because they cared about them. They just didn't dare to upset them, before an election. Shame they didn't have the same respect for those who were forced to retire early.

I am a little confused. I just did some googling regarding unlimited portability and the tables I found say that you need to be suffering from a terminal illness to qualify. Am I missing something??
Also, could somebody point me in the direction of how to apply for my files under FOI??
Once again thank you all so much for just being here, it is so good to know that there are folks out there that I can talk to who will support me rather than get that look in their eye like I am a thief or something.

Also, has anyone found anything that has said that we will be limited to one 6 week period per year overseas?? If I have to get extremely creative to find a cheap way to get back to oz and recharge my portability period then that is one thing, but if I am limited to one 6 week break from surviving here in Oz I can pretty much guarantee that my condition is going to spiral quick smart.

The terminal illness qualification is part of the old law we expect to change on June 30th. There's nothing definite on the 6 weeks, it'd only a threat so far. What people effected have to do is challenge the rules they make up around it. If Centrelink says ''one 6 week trip a year'', we have to say "show us the legislation that says that". There's work ahead I can tell you now.

It is exactly this kind of stuff that makes those with a similar condition to myself start thinking that there is little in life to look forward to. Unfortunately with a combative political system like ours it is always the party that is "tough" on those suspected of getting a free ride that wins the most votes.
I have read quotes from Julia (I think) where she states that government support shouldn't be used to get overseas holidays. Well considering how I am treated as a DSP recipient in this country I have little choice but to travel overseas if I wish to live with even a modicum of self esteem.

Sorry if these posts are getting a little annoying but I am trying to get all my thoughts on here before they disappear into the ether of my dodgy memory. (If you want to try complete amnesia apart from your name etc, get yourself into an Indian hospital and let them give you Larium as an innoculation against Malaria)
As soon as I know exactly where I stand regarding all of this stuff I am going to be making an appointment with my doctor to get the necessary paperwork sorted out. I am also considering protesting at any upcoming Labour party conferences as well as agitating amongst the trade union movement as they still hold a considerable block of votes at all state and federal Labour conferences. I am actually ashamed that I was once a member of the Labour Party.
I think it is about time we started organising so that our voice can be heard. I used to think that ACOSS would always go into bat for us but that is now a long ago pipe dream.
