Hello team, I havent been here for awhile, I lost my dsp and stayd in the Pines to spend as much time with my missus and four yr old as I cud afford. I was feeling motivated when I lodged a new claim for dsp, but c/link have rejected it becoz they wont wait for doctors reports. Now I got a job agency calln threatening to get my dole cancelled becoz I missed an appoint. If my sister wasnt let me crash in her garage I couldnt send half my dole os. So I'm back in the land of "If U dont get it on paper it dont mean jackshit". The c/link team wont put their words on paper. I'm 60 soon, been tryin to control EP for 17 yrs with crap meds but I gotta ride a bike coz I cant walk. Hmm whatz happened to this country

I'm 61 and I've got no chance to get back to my lady then return to Aus in 28 days. It's just not worth the hassle for 4 weeks. So I feel for you and your family. We don't have a child, she's patient, and she's over 50 and I don;t have distance/jealousy issues. So we're pretty lucky. But being away from them must be tearing at your heart. I hope you find a way back. In the mean time, contact the nearest office of Welfare Rights. www.welfarerights.org.au/And do it SOON, before everything gets you down. They are a free service. They are sympathetic, and if anyone will go in to bat for you it will be them.

If I eventually have my dsp restarted and also get portability to go live os, do I cause any probs by marrying my girlfriend to access a permanent visa

Your payment may be reduced to half the married rate.

Not good, how big a risk do U think the maybe is? And do U think it also applies to a defacto r/ship

Sure, they see no difference between defacto and legal marriage.
I'd sort out your portability issues first and worry about marriage later.

I just lodged a strong dsp app. wait and see, but I just stumbled onto a page amongst my papers about a fellow dsp'er who won his I.P. but they're making him stay here 2 years, does this sound familiar

It really doesn't make sense unless his DSP has been granted after he spent a long period overseas. But then the DSP is a residency based payment......

The more I see this, the more I think I'm lucky to have a girlfriend who is 55yo, still stunning and patient. And her family has me as a partner in their business so I have somewhere to live when I do get OAP.
But her kids are grown, and I have known the family for years. I can hardly imagine how it must feel to be away from a younger partner, and away from a 4yo, and not able to spend time with them for another 4 years. Even I'm bloody near in tears thinking about what some of you are going through. Makes me feel like the lucky one.
As for marrying - if it was me (and some day it will be) we've decided not to marry. She would rather live in sin and live comfortably if relatively poorly, than both of us starve.

Cheers Ding, I dont know how to manage mate, my health probs delayed my return to OZ much longer than I'd hoped. I'm back in the dole queue getn bullshited by Abbotts system. I send more than half my dole OS to take care the family. I'm lucky I got one sister letn me shack up and just pay my keep. My boy will be 5 just b4 I'm 60 and my girl will be 40. I dont feel age is relevant becoz we got a good bond. I dont deal with this appeal stuff well becoz my memory and brain dont work well but I appreciatte your letter. Is it just my imagination or is the quality of life in OZ failing. The powerful bisness leaders and pollies are far removed from the average wage earners life, it looks as if the huge unemployed lists cannot be filled and we now see signs of people having to fulfil strict requirements which will see them working to receive the dole. If I can keep goin, I should have a good chance of getn my dsp back. If I dont?

If you don't mind but given your age, do you have to jump through the dole requirements like younger other folk? All the best.

Stick with it. I'm sure you will do okay. Cheers man

I recall I was on repeated medical certificates for serious injuries and another on going health drama. The certificates exempted me from applying for jobs. At some point I ended up on sickness benefit, then after a while centrelink wanted me to go onto DSP. I refused DSP and came to an arrangement where I could try to rebuild my old business, because although I could not be employed, I felt I might be able to be self employed enough to make a new job for myself.
Reason for the story is that if you're on repeated medical certificates and your doctor is certain you cannot work, it might make sense to apply for sickness benefot rather than newstart. And maybe (maybe) that will be a stepping stone back to the DSP.
I'm guessing here though. Might be worth talking to someone older and wiser.
Cheers,
