to another dsp: Re concession card - The first issued to me on return was only for two weeks. I finally got around to giving centrelink my new address in ALice Springs so another card will be issued shortly. I will be interested to see if the time limit. My medicare card - expired for 7 years was also reinstated - without too much hassle. Re family ties - This query from centrelink is making my blood boil. I am a 4thor 5th? generation born Australian - that should be enough to satisfy this mob. next time i am asked this i am going to send them the family tree...... I have no family ties in this country. We are not migrants of this country so having to prove family ties is galling. .

Lynne, I lost my residency in 2002, my ancestors came to Australia with the convicts, My Great grand mother went from Melbourne to the Q'Land border in a covered wagon but Im not a resident? ? The only thing I miss from not having residency is the Medicare card and concession card. On the plus side I only return to Australia when I want to, twice since 2002, so how much money have I saved in air fares by not having to return every 13 weeks.

Hi all..I've been back in Australia, 13 long, miserable days..and have just received my Concession Card. They have accepted my paperwork and now deem me a 'permanent resident' once again. I am waiting now for my ARO appeal shortly (by phone). Was also told there are three cases before SSA Board. Please keep me informed (PM me as internet is slow here) of any outcome and latest on legislation through the Sente (or has it passed already). Thanks and regards to all. I also got my Seniors Card in the mail and now waiting for Medicare to approve my re-application for benefits. ROD.

to lynne,i had my card posted out when i got back,my old dsp card run out 2 days after i got back to aust.and i was not cut off the pension. i still waiting for my brother to have his heart surgery so i am sort of happy to b in aust untill that is sorted, but then i want to head back to bali but still i have only been given a month which for me is a problem as my airflights to an from perth cost twice as much as to an from bali,so 1 month just cruels me finacially.so my plan is to ring CIS twice a week an tell them i am leaving an see if i am put through to the same specialist each time.2 months would b more feasable for me an by the time i return it would give me time to get sorted for the 1st of july an see what that brings!!? will keep you posted.ok lynne well i hope you feel a bit better,i think i can understand what u r going through, just a thought be careful if you need to transfer money to o/s as they could be monitoring our accnts for that sort of activity too.we just dont know what they r up to when it comes to denying us our residency!

Banker: The changes from 26 to 13 weeks that had many of us having to return cut a lot of us from the knees. However for those with family o/s meant the only ones benefiting from this was the airlines. This residency legislation STINKS! The way I see it : you willingly give up Oz residency and take up legal residency in another country - makes you non resident. But if you have not taken this option then what country do we hold residency with if not OZ> ..regardless of the time we spend in the country is not in the equation because the govt determine the period of times we were allowed to be absent from Australia without with no mention how long we had to remain in the country before departure. They made the rules we stuck to the law and now we are the ones penalized with them claiming we are non residents. However saying that, I have had the opportunity of viewing on tv parliament sessions and it is disgusting the way our supposed leaders carry on shouting, demeaning each other, - Obviously they have never left the school playground bringing their school yard mentality with them to lead the country.

ROD COURT: I went into Alice Springs to see if I can get Medicare back. Thought it was going to be a real hassle especially as my card had expired 7 years ago. All I had to do was write a statuary declaration that I did not need to see a doctor during that time (hee hee least not while I was in Australia.) Show 2 forms of ID which was my passport and drivers license. Immediately it was reinstated with a receipt giving me my medicare number and expiry date. I get a card in a week or so. 5 years ago I was told when I went into Medicare that I was not entitled because I lived overseas. Medicare is our entitlement as Australian citizens!

Is that what the ARO review is about? Watch for me on Skype if you get the chance, be good to catch up. I believe banker couldn't get a Medicare card but he is so old he got 2 seniors cards. ;D

I am waiting now for my ARO appeal shortly (by phone). Hi Rod, Don't hold your breath. I too was told they'd phone me within days to get more information (they didn't), and my Authorized Review took 14 weeks to be completed....despite my trying to hurry things along. I thought it was simple, but they didn't think so. You can see what happened to me from my posts in "Centrelink Experiences".

Banker. I Know how you feel!!!! I am going to be interested to see how ICL handles my request for me to return back to Bali. The latest terrorist attack happened within 250 metres from my front door and my daughter is beside herself. I also mentioned I am aware of the travel warnings for essential travel but as I have been involved in Bali Bombing 2002 for the evacuation and collating data base (for which the government applauded my contribution cause they gave me a medal) I would consider my return to Bali essential. Should I be refused to leave then I am going to the MEDIA!!! I know some journos who would .jump at the story. This also would affect all those who live in Bali and have family and loved ones there.

The media can be a double edged sword, I seriously considered it last year and had a journalist interested in my personal story. I decided against it because the corporate media is more than capable of turning it into a "dole bludgers on permanent holiday" thing. In your case you may get a fairer go, you have a genuine human interest angle with the bombing story and the adopted kiddie story.

True re media Banjo. My daughter is in good handshis is also an exercise because I want to know what Centrelink has put in place for those returning for family emergencies. How do they handle our residency and portability. What is the time limit allowed? How long will it take for them to act upon a request. As for dole bludgers!!! The link I sent you was about the OAP rates: An Australian Pensioner receives weekly allowance of $353 + spouse allowance $56. Total Yearly benefit $16,068. An illegal immigrant/refugee living in Australia receives: weekly allowance $472.50 Spouse weekly $472.50 Hardship allowance $145 Total yearly allowance $56,680.00 Makes me burn! This government makes me feel I have been jailed and now hanging about twiddling my thumbs waiting for parole. Another concern is how long is it going to take to process our unlimited portability and residency? ICL don't know and they should know so has anyone out there gleaned any facts.........
