Here we go. After all the medical evidence I sent in I just got my orders to come in for " an interview" in 12 days. Although they never said it on the message it will be a job capacity assessment and I'm ready. GL with that. Is it a Government doctor or JCA?

brent62 The statement from DHS indicated that a JCA will be part of the assessment for all reviewees, so you haven't been singled out. Hopefully the JCA will be the end of the process for you. @peacesells Has some fairly recent experience with a JCA, so maybe have a look at his posts to see how it went?

They are supposed to tell you if its a JCA or DMA. To just say an interview is unusual but good luck with it either way. YOu should be ok. Formality review.

brent62 I believe that the reviews are more than a formality. The JCAs aren't merely jumping through hoops; they are reviewing people's eligibility. The under 35s batch saw 8% lose their pensions. Almost all of them lost it because they no longer demonstrated 20 points on the impairment tables. Social Security Impairment Tables.pdf (421.59 KB) I believe in preparing for any interview. Unfortunately, for DSPers, that means thinking about the ways our disability or disabilities affect us every day. I've said elsewhere that we have a tendency towards downplaying our disabilities, to find ways around them and, especially, in the interests of not going nuts, to stop focusing on them. A JCA interview involves setting aside this habit of downplaying disability, and instead laying bare the whole truth. The interview will take up to an hour. At my last review I took a copy of all of the medical documents I had already provided, just on the offchance that they hadn't been properly married up with my file. It turned out to be unnecessary, but I thought it better to take them as I've experienced Satanlink losing documents. Best wishes. 12 days and you'll be on the other side of it.

The centrelink worker I had in my JCA said reviews can be a formality. I however think regardless its best to prepare for it not to be in all cases for sure, don't be complacent. And there is always Welfare Rights, ACOSS etc appeals that will help in worst case scenarios. Centrelink expect people to just accept their decision if it so happens to be a bad one.

Aaah the old "personal contact" interview that quizzes you and then puts their opinion on a JCA. I remember them well.
Good luck Brent, my best wishes go with you.

Thanks all for the advice. Everyone of you have helped me prepare for this. I'm not leaving anything out and being as prepared as I can. I just want it to be over! Those dreaded early morning black dog wake ups have seeped in. I have not needed anti- depression meds for 2 years and I hope this is just a phase and not the start to another battle with depression. I've checked in with Charmaine at ACOSS and she's in the loop with me for the next stage if this culling process goes south.

Nip it in the bud early with a short course of anti- depressants to ease the way through.
Just my personal thoughts. Cheers bear

Done my JCA. I'm going to have to talk to ACOSS. It was a horrible experience and the rules are so tight now I have no hope. He could see I was having a severe problem and the point system looked for the slightest excuse. It'll take weeks to get the final results but it was rather clear to me that I'm going to have a problem. My God! With all the scans and Dr. reports it still did not matter. I'll chat later.

I'm sorry you've been put through this. Did the JCA say that in their view you don't meet the 20 points? Was there any indication of how many points were awarded? If you receive a notice of cancellation, call Satanlink immediately and ask for "payment pending review." This will keep you on DSP rate until your review avenues are finalised. Please also call Welfare Rights in your state NOW as they provide advocacy for vulnerable people. They'll be able to tell you if you meet their criteria for advocacy, so it may involve answering questions about your disability types. In my experience they are respectful and it's worth describing your disabilities. They won't take your matter on until you receive a cancellation notice, but it's worth contact now so you know if they'll assist you. I don't think ACOSS provides advocacy, although they'll certainly provide you support, not to be sniffed at.

The problem was the guy I had tried to match his spinal problem with mine, tit for tat. Then it was made obvious after a comment that I can still take care of my toilet duties without assistance means I'm not that bad. He acknowledged that my condition in the spine has deteriorated and debilitating but because I don't see a psychiatrist any more that will work against me. He passed it on that other people make the decision but it was clear to me that the new system is not about what's best for anyone but the quota for the government's budget measures.
Amazing is all I can say!
I'll fight tooth and nail. I just want ACOSS to hear my voice that's all they need until enough voices create a great "barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world."
I miss Australia it's unrecognisable with this LNP elitist swill whose love for the big banks, mining concessions and tax breaks, for the rich, have got us in this debt much further only to have the most vulnerable left with the bill and the blame!
PS. Thanks I'm onto Welfare rights next.

JCA assessors are not supposed to do their assessment that way. Definitely worth fighting it if it goes pear shaped.
