You are on a grandfathered unlimited portability if I remember correctly?
The only one here that was in your situation that I know that did the jump from the DSP to the Age pension was Banker and he's not spoke to me for years. You can try your luck contacting him if you like.

You can try your luck contacting him if you like. thanks cobber for your advice, well you would never believe what the internet fairy did she must be in a good mood, 0300 hrs this morning all bright eyed n bushy tailed i fell out of the sack and onto the laptop, well i dunno if you others believe in the internet fairy but i'm starting to believe in her, why not the locals believe in Aswangs,Wokwoks, white ladys, black ladys, little men that live in the trees and many more such evil spirits, so why not i believe in the internet fairy a? anyway back to my internet fairy well after falling out of the sack, scratching my proviberals, lighting up a fag then having a dingo's breakfast (a piss n look around) i got on the internet and bingo that internet fairy must have had a good nights sleep coz boys n gals i got onto this wonderful centrelink web site pronto, i logs into it like i did yesterday but this time something wondrous happens thanks to my new invisible girlfriend the internet fairy she allowed me to access the web page that sorta transferred me from DSP to OAP online but i still have to send them my ID wot the hell for they know for the last 20 yrs who i am so why harass a poor old senile bloke like me with both feet in the grave? i suppose they get some perverse enjoyment and a bit of a giggle out of annoying us till we drop dead, anyhow apparently all i gotta do is get copy's of my passport to them before September 5th (another wild fantasy on there part) although there is a link to upload a copy of the ID required .... it don't work.. why am i not surprised anyway i think i got it all figured out with the help of the internet fairy, toodeloo i'm off to get a mug of coffee and take my silly pills for the day, cheers

Upon reflection on the form in my previous post perhaps the application is for a 1 year non immigrant 90 day multiple entry "retirement" visa though ambiguity makes me doubt my ability to comprehend so I guess I'll just have to ring the Consulate to confirm whether you must leave every 90 days, just report as stated below or is that what's at the Immigration Officers discretion. I'll let you all know the result.
www.thaiconsulatesydney.org/Home/visa Passport: Australian. Visa Type: Retirement
Sorry for the delay. Thougth I'd give the Consulate time to respond in writing (lol) via their "Contact Us" thinga.me.bob. Just got off the phone to them and was told "Reporting is at the discretion of Immigration Officer on arrival, also to check with them re re-entry visa requirements when leaving."
What a great answer, so maybe you do, maybe you don't, maybe you will, maybe you won't. So quintessentially Thai, wait and see. Cheers bear

Not sure what you are saying about the 90 days You Do Not Have To Leave The Country You are talking about a 1 year Visa RIGHT ?? Forget about what you were told This is mandatory Immigration Requirement This for the 1 year O A Visa I have hear that the 6 month visa not sure on it Letter! you have to leave he country every 60 days go over the border then come back Dont know why but this is Thailand Trust me i have just done this from OZ and what i have now It took me a while to get my hear around what to do i now have another 1 year to stay here now Even banjo is still trying to work it out I have been here 11 months now So i am into the system now I have not had any problems i have even been to England, and had no problems You have to report every 90 days They want to know where you are and still here If you have A Multi O A Visa You can come and go with in the 12 Month issue date period If only a Single entry Visa You have to get a Re Entry Permit This is what we have to do here Now Has been like this for many years Plus this will not change Too many people have told me this many have been here up to 15 Years If anyone has anything to add to this please post

OK, nothing like a coincidence but I've been dealing with someone off the forum who's hit the Age Pension. I'll post some of his emails, being careful not to identify him. I have just received a crazy letter from Centrelink. They are stating that I can, and must, make a claim on the Thai Gov't to give me some sort of benefit ? And prove to them that I have done so. I have never paid a Baht in income tax here, and have never had a job in the 8 years that I have been here.
It has had me pulling my hair out for the last couple of weeks just stressing over this, as I don't know how to respond. Or even consider options.etc etc... ok I reply with learned advice and soothing words and he rings C/link. I did as you suggested and rang Australia on the no. at the bottom of their email page. I got the girl to call me back, and I explained my circumstances. She was very understanding, but I think the main thrust of her point was had I been working here over the past 8 odd years, to which I obviously said no.
She said that as I had recently reached, and was claiming the Old Age Pension that they were obliged to send out their letter ? I'm not aware of anyone else receiving correspondence like this.
I corrected her, and said that I had declined, for the moment, to change over from the DSP to the OAP, and does that make a difference ? ... to which she then said, that she could see on the screen, the correspondence pointing that out from me, and that she would make those changes on my file. I then said that if I was, in the future, to decide to eventually change over to the OAP from the DSP, would I then get this stressful letter again. She then said that she had marked in my file, that I had never worked here, or paid taxes here, so I therefore should not get their letter again on this subject. She stated that as they do not share information with Thailand, that they had to go through me, or words to that effect, as to me working.I have a pic of the letter which I'm not going to post here but will make it available to anyone that I know is coming up for the Age pension on request.

Thailand only pays Thai's over 65 500 baht ($20.00) a month. That is the only welfare that i KNOW OF FOR LOCALS SO WHAT ARE c/l ON ABOUT AT ALL? Again defies belief.

good morning to you all, have a great Sunday, well as yet no news back from old mate Centrelink about my transfer from DSP to OAP so no news is good news a ? to be totally honest (stop laughing) i have never really had that much drama with centrelink they have dealt with me ok & fair over the years, they stuffed up a few times but of course it was the computers fault, but all my years since my accident i have never had really bad experiences with Centrelink not like some of the folks here on this site, so i can not really knock centrelink too much but we will see if my transfer from DSP to OAP goes smoothly,,, i bloody well hope it does. cheers

Sunday again jez's time fly's, well update about my DSP to OAP transfer, i expressed posted away the DSP to OAP the transfere papers to Centrelink in Canberra from Philippines it took over 2 weeks, (things move slowly here in Philippines, more fun a?) anyway old mate centrelink rang me up few days after they received the express envelope containing the paperwork the bloke was very helpful and polite, not over friendly but very professional, sounded like some university professor on the phone, anyway nice bloke who said all ok and he will process my paperwork, so boys n gals simply done no dramas, quick n easy biggest pain in ass for me was trying to fill in the bloody paperwork, for a half senile old bastard like me it was confusing, but to be totally fair to centrelink they have always been ok to deal with, buts that's me a ! toodle-oo

Hi Banjo and friends. Iam still in khon kaen Thailand and have 2.5 years till iam 65 and a half. Yes for all those younger than me its now 67 retirement age. They snuck that pickle in so looks like unemployment another 2 years for the unlucky ones. I can stay here 2 .5 years but still know i need my OAP to stay till i die. Do i go back to australian on shore detention or stay here. Its really the 2 year wait to portability thats got me thinking. What to do?

How long you been in KK?
If it's serious time I'd pack up and go back now.

Well I'm 3 years away last month so I'd be interested myself. I'm mainly concerned that they might try to pull a swifty with Medicare. Well I asked that same question a while ago and was told by this nice lady that that in her opinion 3 years was absolute tops , mind uou this was in relation to residency matters , oops Boss you're on the cusp .....

Just watch your residency if you want portability of the Age pension. If it's 2 1/2 years away I'd be spending 6 months of the year in Australia minimum and be there for 6 months before you apply. I know there's no "rules" on this but you need to be careful. It's great feeling when you get on that plane and know you'll never need to worry about them again.
