Just wanna drop in and say Hello to all. Been on DSP since 2006. Never had a problem with CL regarding travel or assessments. Been thinking to apply for UP but have doubt that I will make it and dont wanna put my DSP in jeopardy. I havnt been to any doctor since 2006 and doubt a new doctor would fill out the documents without knowing me.
Looking forward to read a lot in future.

Welcome to the board Maca.
Applying for the UP involves certain risks but our members have a very good success record. Read our stories and ask any questions you may have.

So Banjo if MAca84 applies for UP will he assessed under the new tougher 2011 tables rather then the medical tables that existed when he got the DSP in 2006? which means theres a risk he could be rejected?

So if someone applies for UP , its possible they not only get rejected but also lose their DSP and put on Newstart. Do they have to look for work with a dole diary , jobsearch training and all that stuff or do they get an exemption from that because of their disabilty/ medical problem.

One question for your guys, if they gonna reassesses my DSP in the future are they using the new tables? Cant find anything about that anywhere.
Are they allowed to do this?

I really can't see where you're going with this. If we constantly look at the worst possible result, regardless of the facts of the case, then I could point to quite a few members of this forum who would currently still be living in Australia. I don't think I know of one who was not only unsuccessful but lost the DSP as well.

Banjo, you have the age of those members ? I would think that CL would give UP to people closer to OAP age.
Maybe I am wrong. I would like to go for UP but finding a doctor who will fill out the documents is a problem in my eyes cos i dont have any doctor past years. I also asked CL about my file, they said that there was nothing on my file. Kinda wierd all.
Would it be possible to asked for a CL doctor?

The only way anyone can live even close to comfortably on a pension is to be a couple sharing expenses with their own house freehold and savings in the bank.
People who have slipped through the cracks in the system, for whatever reason, are just as like to finish up in a cheap single room flat living from pension day to pension day, thinking about the good life they could have had overseas.
When you look at the risks they diminish considerably in my opinion.

If we are using foreign doctors and hospitals wouldn't it save the government money

I think it will come, as Australia realises they are part of the greater Asian community whether they like it or not then the borders will relax and we will lose this "Island Nation" mentality. I may not see it in my time though.

The age group is fairly mixed, I haven't take a lot of notice but age is no guarantee of success, I was knocked back at 64, go figure that one out. You don't ask Centrelink about your file, you apply for a copy under the Freedom of Information Act. Your original doctor's report will be in there. I don't think Centrelink have doctors anymore, they rely on their highly trained staff to assess people's medical condition.

maca84... welcome to the board. I was originally granted DSP in 2010 and was 'pinged' on residency grounds in May 2012, which I successfully appealed. From 13 August 2012 I basically started again by walking into a bulk billing medical centre and told the doctor straight up that I needed to have my medical conditions reassessed from scratch to determine my eligibility for DSP under the revised CL impairment tables because, depending on that outcome, I would be applying for unlimited portability. He coordinated all aspects of the assessments so that by the time the different reports were in from sundry specialists he was able to write up my application for unlimited portability with his own knowledge. That process took 7 months. I dithered for a time before submitting to CL who took approximately 3 and half months before they gave me a decision. I departed Australia 26 August 2013.
