thanks everyone , but why is this question important for them ?is it a trick question? because I also said I could be back in several years dont know what will happen in the future and asked if my payments will ever stop ,she said only if another law is out .so when saying indefinetly could a new law cancell our payments?

I think we generally need to take Centrelink at what they say, I seriously doubt they set up "trick" questions at that level, if you're under investigation for something for sure... that branch is full of tricky people, but you're dealing with officers here who want you out of the way so they can get onto the next customer. Once again, I wouldn't say permanent, but if you are asked for a return date you should say "what would happen if I don't return by then, would my payments be affected?" You could also ring Welfare Rights and get them to inquire. Always keep in mind that you people with the UP are the first cabs off the rank, the rules are not set in place yet and you may find them made up as you go along.

Centrelink are always using trick questions, just look at their track record on this forum.

So what do you think ela should do then?
And please keep in mind they areNOT going to get anything in writing off them, we've a track record on that as well.

maybe if I say permanetly it would save me from headache later on ....and also on the letter sent out it would write your dsp may be paid permanetly instead of indefinitely ,just to be on the safe side.

I never got that question. Because I cant think of one good reason why C/link would want to know that. Unlimited portability is Unlimited...endless, till 6ft under etc .
The only time it may come into question is if your a home owner. If you are then your house is now reassessed and upgraded as an asset so your payments will be effected after 12 months
My hypothesis is the officer just asked the question because he could.

Good points Zorro.
What are they going to do if you just say "don't know"? Stop you going?

So what do you think ela should do then? And please keep in mind they areNOT going to get anything in writing off them, we've a track record on that as well. I have written about this before. When I left in 2011, I called C/L just to tell them I was leaving, The woman asked me many times when was I returning & I answered each time "I don't know"...To the point where she got a supervisor, this guy comes on the phone could hardly speak English, in fact I asked him if he was in a call centre in India. This guy had the same question over and over again, I just kept giving him the same answer "I don't know" he did say I have to tell him...my reply was Im on OAP I have U.P Centrelink have taken away my residency...I dont have to tell you jack s*it. His last words were "You will be getting a letter from me" That was in November 2011, guess what No letter. Just tell them you don't know. They will try every trick in the book, so be on your guard 25 hours a day.
